"Just get it out there"

Back in 2017 my job was heavily mobile focused and I'd also come by an interest in handheld consoles like the 3DS or Vita. Unity 3D could build to all of the above, and I used it in a professional capacity so figured that I'd start making little games with my spare time. Most of these were ideas that I'd build, play for a bit, and then simply forget, but this one has bugged me now for years.

I've tossed a build out to a few friends who were happy to give it a spin, and all of which returned with positive feedback despite the roughness of the build and it's basic nature (it doesn't even have the ability to quit the game - you've gotta Alt+F4 that one baby!), but a couple kept on pestering me to get this game out to the public somewhere, and itch.io seemed to be the preferred method. One friend described it as "like Deviantart except for game makers, so you've got no commitments attached to the project, just do it". Ok, it's done.

The design document for the game has a multi-stage game loop which starts at a hexagonal map showing the status of both forces (red and green - that's all we're getting unless something massive changes for art and development), the player will be given the choice of flying a patrol on a border tile, or taking part in a specific conflict. Conflicts are intended to be monumental events on the battlefield which can involve a large number of tiles changing sides. Upon deciding what you'd like to fly the game engine is intended to construct a mission based off of elements involved - there'll be a heavy lean on generation for all of these elements and the bones for this are in place, but not nearly implemented.

Of course it'd also be nice to have a whole host of different aircraft, vehicles, a way to create your own aircraft (like in Crimson Skies) but that's all way down the track and much of this hinges on my ability to find the time to push the project forward. The twist of fate is that part of its neglect was due to me developing multiple sclerosis, so if this is all I manage then please enjoy it as much as you can as it may be my only offering here!
